The impact of autumn on the construction company

Autumn is a time that poses unique challenges for the construction industry, such as the need for better and more precise planning. House construction usually begins in spring so that all wet work can be completed before the first major drops in temperature. However, some activities are possible even after the colder days arrive, and technological support is increasingly becoming a significant factor in the fall season.

Why is construction work challenging in the fall?

Weather conditions can increase the time required to complete certain tasks and negatively affect the quality of materials. For example, the presence of moisture in the air, in larger quantities, weakens cement or concrete.

Frost also has a negative impact on raw materials, as it can cause water in concrete to freeze, thereby weakening the structure and even necessitating demolition. However, new technologies come to our aid, as it is now possible to use appropriate admixtures to accelerate setting.

Intense autumn rainfall can also be an obstacle, leading to softening and landslides. Teams must therefore use additional covers to protect the construction site. In addition, due to wet or icy surfaces, the number of accidents on construction sites increases at this time of year. It is necessary to invest in appropriate protective clothing and lighting to ensure the safety of workers during the increasingly shorter days.

Advantages of starting or continuing work at this time

Despite these difficulties, the arrival of autumn can be the right time to carry out some key construction works. It is the right time to install roof elements, windows, and doors, provided there is no heavy rainfall. If there is no frost, it is also possible to lay foundations. However, it is important to remember to secure them properly and insulate them correctly.

The installation of temporary heating inside the building also allows for the erection of partition walls, plastering, and even finishing floors. All installation, sanitary, and assembly work is also feasible, provided that the temperature is above freezing.

Thanks to the lower workload of contractors and slightly lower prices for services, this is a good time to complete the shell of the building. Building suppliers often offer specific discounts on products, as it is unprofitable to store materials in warehouses for long periods of time. One of the benefits is therefore the opportunity to save money and speed up the entire investment period. Another advantage of the cool weather is the lower risk of overheating of machinery and construction equipment and greater comfort during physical work. The risk of health damage caused by overheating among employees is reduced.

Summary

Thanks to modern technologies and proper planning, autumn is increasingly becoming the preferred season for starting or continuing construction work. However, it is important to remember to use appropriate materials, designed for lower temperatures, and protective measures to prevent damage to existing structures.
